The Lake Atitlán Cubes: Geometry in the Sky

There’s something especially strange about seeing clean, geometric shapes where they shouldn’t be—like floating silently above one of Central America’s most stunning lakes.

That’s exactly what happened in March 2025, when a video surfaced showing two cube-shaped objects hovering in the sky over Lake Atitlán in Guatemala. The clip, reportedly captured by a tourist filming the landscape, shows two solid, box-like forms suspended in the air. They don’t spin, they don’t flash. They just float—in formation—before slowly drifting out of frame.

No lights. No wings. No sound. Just eerie, unnatural stillness.

A New Kind of Shape

UFOs (or UAPs) have been reported in just about every shape imaginable: discs, triangles, orbs, even the occasional cigar. But cubes? That’s rare. And two of them—identical in shape and size, hovering together—adds an extra layer of weird.

Viewers online quickly noticed how steady the objects were. Despite the natural breeze you’d expect around a lake at elevation, the cubes never wobble or rotate. They stay perfectly upright, side by side, as if being deliberately guided.

And unlike most viral UAP clips, there are no visible lights, trails, or signs of propulsion.

Could It Be… Something Normal?

Skeptics have weighed in with a few possible explanations. Balloons are the most common suggestion—box-shaped helium party balloons floating high and catching the light. But the movement, according to some commenters, doesn't quite match. The cubes don’t spin, bob, or shift like you'd expect with wind.

Others propose it’s a camera trick. Maybe the cubes are much closer than they appear. Maybe they're objects dangling from a wire. But no supporting evidence has emerged to confirm that theory—and the depth of field in the video makes them appear quite distant.

Then there’s the weather balloon explanation, again. But why two? Why cubes? Why here?

Lake Atitlán’s Strange Energy

Lake Atitlán isn’t new to mystery. The area is steeped in Maya history, ancient spiritual sites, and local legends of lights in the water and sky. Some villagers have passed down stories of “silent watchers” above the lake—figures that drift, observe, and disappear.

Whether folklore or foreshadowing, the region’s atmosphere adds to the mystery.

Cubes and the Big Picture

This isn’t the first time cube-shaped UAPs have made the rounds. A U.S. Navy pilot once described a "cube inside a sphere" object off the East Coast. And in 2020, a leaked Pentagon report included sketches of boxy aerial vehicles that defied known aerodynamics.

Are we seeing a pattern emerge? Or are we just more willing to notice the strange shapes floating above us?

Either way, those cubes over Atitlán have left a square peg in a round world.
